Location:
Los Angeles County,
Southern boundary -North side of the 210 Frwy.
Northern boundary - Fish Canyon entrance, Gun Club southern boundary, north margin of San Gabriel Canyon bottom as it interfaces the San Gabriel Mtn. south- facing slope.
Western boundary - The current west bank of the San Gabriel River parallel to Encanto Drive in Duarte which terminates into Fish Canyon Rd.
Eastern boundary - The west boundary of the Gravel Pit adjacent & west of Irwindale Blvd., from the 210 Frwy to Foothill Blvd. in Azusa. The west boundary of the active Owl Rock Gravel Pit Mining operation, north of Foothill Blvd. The west side of Hwy 39 until it reaches the San Gabriel Mt. Information Center on Hwy. 39, at which point the north-facing cliffs to the south of hwy. 39 become the boundary all the way to El Encanto Rivers & Mountains Conservancy.
A separate plant inventory of the above conservancy was begun in the spring of 2008 by the author.

Some of the older records are not within the current boundary, but are located within former river-bed areas now altered by development.
Map Quad: Azusa
Township: 1 N
Range: 10 W
Sections: 23,
Elevation: 550-860 ft. (168-256 m.)
Location description: This area is defined by two specific areas, the river channel which is periodically flooded with water, and the dry flood-plain, bordering the channel. The area extends from the I-210 Frwy in the south to the El Encanto Rivers And Mountains Conservancy in the upper north-east area, where the canyon drastically narrows.
Plant communities:
River channel - Before construction of Morris and San Gabriel Dams in the 19__? the water flow was continuous. (?) The present agreement with the Vector Control District regarding water flow within the channel, calls for intermittent release of water during the warmer months to restrict the development of Buffalo Fly gnat larval development in the stream. The yearly schedule of water release greatly impacts the riparian species diversity from year to year.
Flood Plain - Dry, rock strewn alluvial deposits with sandy-gravelly soil with chaparral and coastal sage scrub plant communities.

Species List:
*Collected in 2008,2009 - awaiting verification/identification
Intended collection of all species marked NC, during 2009. There are 322 species represented in this list. About eight have not yet been added, ID’s pending.
